Shop ‘til you drop! Retail chains keep booming! There have been more than 129 new franchise brands added to the retail category since 2002, representing a 137 percent growth in number of concepts unveiled. Clothing and accessories represent the industry with the most new brands between 2002 and 2006, with 16 new concepts introduced.
Nationwide, female entrepreneurs have found increasing satisfaction and fortune in owning their own business. Research shows that women across the world are starting new businesses at increasing rates. Women are no longer sitting by idly and waiting for the glass slipper to fit, nor are they hunkered down in some corporate giant, looking up through a glass ceiling. They are heading up companies, sitting on boards and foundations, and turning their passion into a paycheck that works for their lifestyle.
Baby Boomers and franchising are a combination that is growing increasingly more common in this generation to opt for the working route rather than the retiring route. Many of these baby boomers have become disillusioned with their corporate life and want a form of safe self-employment that they will sell when they are ready to pass it on to their sons and daughters.
Entrepreneurs are becoming more averse to risk and investing in low cost opportunities with low overhead like businesses that they can run from home or with relatively few employees or inventory.
